Degenerative Myelopathy German Shepherd Dogs

Only a few months ago, degenerative myelopathy never was in our vocabulary until a client’s family member, a beautiful little German Shepherd name Trinity.  Trinity is a sweet little girl that provides plenty of love to her owners and was full of energy until one day it was observed that she was dragging her back paws while walking.  Not really thinking it was something serious, the owners kept a constant watch and noticed that it was getting progressively worse.

Trinity’s vet (Rising Sun Veterinary Clinic in Des Plaines) was contacted regarding this issue and an appointment was setup.  A couple of X-rays and tests later, the vet said it could be one of three things; a tumor, some type of spinal issue or degenerative myelopathy (DM).  Since she was having no pain, it was determined it was DM.  There was a plenty of things that could be done to help temporarily but the vet said that it ultimately would lead to her not having any use of her back legs.  We assisted in providing help in finding some of the more expensive products – namely Aminocaproic Acid.  The best price that he said clients had given was from Costco with pricing over $150.00 per month.  The vet said check around for better though.

I did some research on the issue and am reproducing it here for you

The most inexpensive location for the Aminocaproic Acid that I could on the web for only $60 for 100 tablets of 500 mg.
